Homemade Holy Basil Chai | 10 min recipe

A unique way to boost mood and add a personal touch to your favorite tea


Total servings

  • 3 - 5 servings



  • 5 cups water

  • 1 tablespoon green cardamom pods

  • 3-4 whole star anise

  • ½ tablespoon whole cloves

  • ½ tablespoon whole allspice

  • 1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns

  • 4-5 cinnamon sticks

  • 1-3 scoops Holy Basil

  • 1 large ginger root, peeled and chopped into large chunks

  • Milk or nut milk [optional, to mix with chai concentrate]



  1. Peel and chop ginger root into medium to large chunks

  2. Add ginger root to water in a pot and set to the side

  3. Gently crush remaining spices to release their oils; add spices and Holy Basil to pot

  4. Set pot over a burner on high heat, bring to a boil and then remove from heat

  5. Cover pot with a lid and let steep for 30 minutes

  6. Strain the chai concentrate from the pot

  7. Add either water, milk, or nut milk at a 1:1 ratio and enjoy; can store in refrigerator for up to two weeks
